Working with IHRSA, the association continues to pledge financial support to our Legislative consultant and support an agenda to fight for the repeal of sales tax and other initiatives important to FHCA owners and managers.
Several FHCA board members also attend the IHRSA Legislative Annual Summit to represent our members and the 750 plus Florida Clubs. Attending the Summit has helped them to position themselves as Leaders in our State whom legislators can rely on for information pertaining to new laws.
The Florida Health Club Association legislative efforts have been successful in:
- H.B. 1629 Encourages rebates of insurance premiums for
participation in wellness programs. Is now law. Administrative
implementation was also succesful.
- S.B. 2372 Would establish the Governor's Council for a Fit Florida, concerned with promoting physical fitness in the state. - In Law Now
- H.B 167 FHCA killed legislation that would allow expansion of property tax exemptions for non-profit health clubs.
- S.B
2014 FHCA amended legislation to exempt health clubs from being
required extensive barriers to access to indoor pools in health clubs
